Pilot Twin Mk2 Gas Alarm With Two Detector Heads (12V & 24V)
Pilot Twin Mk2 Gas Alarm With Two Detector Heads (12V & 24V)
Pilot Twin Mk2 Gas Alarm With Two Detector Heads (12V & 24V)
Part No: 715512
A Pilot twin channel gas alarm is an important and cost effective item of safety equipment wherever gas or other dangerous vapours may be present in the environment.
However good a gas or engine installation may be there can be occasions when either a due to mechanical failure or human error, a potentially lethal leak may occur. Many of the vapours present on boats and in caravans such as butane, propane and petrol are heavier than air, meaning even a small leak can soon build up to dangerous proportions in the bilge of a boat or in an inadequately ventilated caravan.
Pilot gas alarms are not fitted with an on / off switch as they are designed to be permanently on whenever the master switch is activated. The Pilot gas alarm also has a built in test feature to ensure the system works correctly. The Pilot twin channel gas alarm control box is supplied complete with two detector heads with 3.5 metres of cable per detector head plus installation and operating instructions.
The Pilot Twin Mk2 gas alarm is the upgraded version of the Pilot Twin and can be used on both 12V and 24V DC power supplies and consumes less than 180 milliamps on standby and less than 200 milliamps with both alarms sensing. An internal fuse protects the gas alarm circuit and sophisticated fault detection circuitry warns of low supply voltage, detector failure, disconnection or short circuit.
This extra terminal in the Pilot Twin Mk2 gas alarm can alternatively be used as a network terminal to allow any number of twin alarms to be 'chained' together. This is particularly useful on larger vessels as it allows you to have a main control unit and at least one detector in most rooms, yet if the unit at the other end of the vessel alarms, all the units will activate. The unit that detected the original leak will be identifiable by a bright LED.
Installation
Warning: Disconnect the power supply before proceeding with the installation!
- The power supply must come from the vessel's Master Switch in order to activate the Gas Alarm whenever the power is on.
- The Twin Channel Gas Alarm Mk2 will work on a 12V or 24V DC supply.
Suitable Locations
- The main unit should be in a location where the alarm is audible and the LEDs can be seen. It must be protected from the elements however, ventilation holes should not be covered up.
- The gas sensor should be mounted as low as possible in a position where they will remain dry - near gas appliances at floor level or just underneath floorboards is ideal.
- There are cable routing and mounting holes on the rear and bottom of the unit casing.
Initialisation:
- When the Twin Channel Gas Alarm Mk2 is first switched on it will begin its stabilisation process. The green LED will be on and the red will flash along with a beeping sound.
- The stabilisation process may take up to 8 minutes. However, after 30 seconds the beep will stop.
- When the unit has stabilised there will be one long beep and then the red LED and beep will stop.
- If the alarm (constant tone and red LED) continues to sound after initialisation immediate action must be taken:
1. Ensure nothing is used which could ignite gas (matches, engine ignition etc.) and shut off all gas
2. Ventilate the area by opening doors and hatches
3. Investigate and remove any source of dangerous vapour
4. The alarm will stop once the vapour has been safely removed.
5. If the unit still alarms, see troubleshooting and Sensor replacement.
Testing:
The alarm may be tested at any time in two ways:
1. By pressing the "TEST" button, which simulates a presence of gas and should immediately sound the alarm and light the red LED
2. By allowing a small amount of lighter fluid vapour to pass by the sensor, which will test the sensor itself.
It is important to note that a failing or aged sensor will be detected by the main unit and will cause an alarm. Disconnecting the sensor will also cause an alarm.
